How to Use Twitter “Advanced Search” to Set up Super Local, Local Events

First of all, did you know that you can use twitter to search another tweeter within a radius of as close to 1 mile to your location?! To do this, follow these three steps:

1. Go to:

2. Go to “Advanced Search”

3. Go to “Location”

Second of all, if you wanted to set up a local event, think about how useful such a search tool could be! You can use twitter to also search for others on twitter, in any given area, who you think would attend your type of event. Twitter is great for picking up on what particular conversations a given location is having, and what the various topics are under discussion. Make a list of these twitter users, keep an eye on what is being tweeted among them, and then get a feel for the area in which you are holding the event. By checking out the local buzz, you now have a much better feel for the area than you had before.

For example, let’s say there was a Chili Cookout event, yet the chili makers were not from the immediate area where they would like to hold the event. Still, they are wondering what type of businesses local to the area would also have interest in such an event. Using twitter, the chili makers happen to pick up on a popular trend of tweets regarding a local brewery in the area. Hey, it seems perfect to invite a local brewery, to help their customers wash down all that chili.

This shows how useful twitter can be from a local business/marketing perspective. The chili makers are able to narrow their twitter search so far down, as to find whatever brewers are as local as local gets: 1 mile! Not to mention, at the end of the day, such an event would certainly benefit both the chili makers and the brewery; all thanks to Twitter.
